Our Chef, Michael Leech
Over the last 40+ years, Chef Michael Leech has open seven restaurants and he
draws from that deep well of experience to enhance Cafe Zoolu in Laguna Beach.
The restaurant opend in 1993, is modest in size but big in character. "I love the restaurant business," Michael says. "It's unlike anything else. Working with the public and being creative with what I do is what I enjoy most." The self-taught chef says he prides himself on making each of his dishes a work of art. "I learned to become a
chef by trial and error, " Michael says, "picking up things here and there, and waking
up in the middle of the night with new ideas for food has put me where I am today."
Chef Michael Leech is a veteran of the mesquite broiler (40+ years). The food is described as 'Eclectic California Cuisine' with an emphasis on fresh seafood… Hawaiian, Asian, Mexican & Cajun are some of the influences that make up the
menu. Most of the fish is char-broiled to perfection over the mesquite.
Chef Michael buys only the very best from all over the world, cuts it himself every
day, and then cooks it himself every night. Michael's world famous 3″ thick pound of fresh swordfish is Cafe Zoolu's most popular dish. Only fresh, wild caught seafood is prepared by Chef Michael.
